There are experiences that are simply indescribable. Having a massage in a church full of candles, while an orchestra plays is certainly one of these experiences. I’ve recently done just that with Spa le Tsar, and I had a sublime, breathtaking time.
I was booked at Ste-Brigide church for 19h. When I arrived, I was offered a bit of vodka, in order to warm me up, and then I went into the main room. What I was welcomed with was magical. The church was full of candles, allowing the stained glass to shine through, making the room almost romantic. This church, now unused, is certainly rich in history and memories.
The massage therapists then came to pick up their assigned clients. The walls were covered with cloth in order to create a sense of intimacy. My massage therapist then showed me my massage bed, and asked me about my level of stress, areas to prioritize, and then let me get ready.
Soon, the orchestra started playing. A theatrical and intense music suddenly filled the church. I was febrile — what an experience — and it took me a few minutes before I was able to relax and enjoy the massage fully. My massage therapist adapted herself to the music during my 1h30 session. I couldn’t close my eyes, especially when I laid on my back; the magnificent ceiling of the church had all my attention. It was an experience that I would qualify as energizing, more than relaxing. But according the snoring I heard coming from all across me, some people definitely found it calming.
Spa le Tsar is behind this original concept. They are the only Russian spa in Montreal and offers unique and different experiences, as well as private Nordic baths and well as many other services. Keep an eye out on their events so you know when the next mass is, and what the concept will be!
