Decorating your chez soi and making it yours is something that everyone loves to do, but an area that many often dismiss is their makeup storage, keeping it at a bare minimum. However, small details and changes can turn your simple vanity into one worthy of royalty (or a few Instagram snaps) — without having to spend an exorbitant amount of money! Whether you need inspiration or because you love organization, keep on reading.
1. Acrylic containers
Acrylic containers are one of the best ways to store your everyday makeup, because they are so easy to work with. They come in various shapes and sizes nowadays so you are bound to find one that meets your needs, whether it is that you need more space for powders or for lipsticks. If your room’s aesthetic is a bit darker, just know many brands now also make them in darker colors! They are also very easy to get your hands on — Amazon has so many of them!
2. Wired baskets
Wired baskets are a simple and elegant touch to any vanity, adding a touch of color without taking too much space. They are the perfect way to store makeup palettes and most importantly, making them visible, and therefore, getting good use out of them. On white vanities, copper baskets look especially good and feminine! H&M sells a variety of them for extremely inexpensive prices.
3. Lanterns for brushes
Lanterns, you ask? Yes! While makeup brushes look lovely in flower pots from IKEA or mason jars, my concern is that the bristles of your brushes are constantly exposed, therefore attracting dust particles. I’ve found that I need my brushes stored away, in a closed area, or else my sensitive skin reacts badly to the products I put on it with the brushes. I’ve therefore looked around, and I found Anthropologie lanterns to be the best way to store them! The top can be closed, and you can still access your brushes easily. Plus, the simplicity of the brass outline adds a luxurious touch that mugs or mason jars would not bring to your decor.
4. Perfume trays
Perfume trays are a great way to add your personal touch to your vanity. If your perfumes are sprawled everywhere on your makeup desk, you might want to group them all together. Not only does it give you more free space, it also makes the area look a lot more put together. Mirrored trays emanate elegance and luxury, and their embroidery gives them a vintage touch. If that’s not the style you’re going for, there are thousands of styles online, so you won’t have to compromise!
5. Cake stands
A simple way to store small products is a levelled cake holder that you can find almost anywhere. Because of the array of styles there are on the market, you can easily find one that matches your decor. Marble cake stands are an easy way to incorporate the elegant trend into your room if you do not want to go overboard with the style, and can be found on Etsy. I personally think that storing samples and items that you want to try out on these is a great idea, because it is easy to forget about new items if you store them away. Perfume samples look particularly good on marble!
