Are you looking for a place to start — or end — the night in style? Just know that Montreal is full of great places for drinks. I was recently seduced by these three bars that all have in common their different, eccentric decor. What a better way to make your martini even chicer.
The new Bird Bar’s speakeasy is small, yet so charming! Hidden in the basement of the establishment on Notre-Dame street, Henden is the ideal place to start your night, especially if you plan on eating at the restaurants above. The seventies decor is splendid and welcoming, with its Moroccan accessories and its brick walls. The menu includes a long list of champagnes, which is the Bird Bar’s focus, but also many other cocktails created by the team. Accompany the drinks with a few oysters or caviar for a decadent meal.
Certainly one of the most beautiful places in town, Bord’Elle opened its doors right before the Holidays, and is already on the list of the city’s trendiest bars. The two-stories building offers a spectacular decor worthy of the Golden Twenties, and is separated in three distinct rooms: the champagne room, the whiskey parlour and the big foyer. Cocktails are superb and the selection of wine is incredible, and food is also served (poké bowls, tartars, beef tataki). The bar, that is often full during evenings, also offers many burlesque-inspired shows in a glamorous ambiance. My tip: get there early!
This little bar hidden in the Plateau is known for its elaborate cocktails, all made by passionate mixologists. The retro look adds a little “something” to the experience, and the laid-back ambiance makes it the perfect place for a first date. Located under the Rouge Gorge, this speakeasy’s champagne and spirits’ based drinks are signature drinks. A new address that will make cocktail amateurs happy.
